Check out this beautiful, edible, cottage style, garden design! We started with a large black and green timber bamboo screen to block the freeway, reduce noise, wind, and the west facing sun. Adding lemon gum eucalyptus provides additional filtered shade and a heavenly scent (medicinal/essential oil). We also included plenty of moringa, lemon grass, guava, sweet potato vines, ruellia, lady slippers, etc. that the homeowner either already has potted or can easily propagate to help keep budgets in check. A kids swing off a mature ficus tree surrounded by soft and subtle foxtail ferns underfoot, and a front yard path leading to a hidden fountain are sure to enchant children at play. They can stop and feast on apples, peaches, figs, almonds, calamondin, loquat, papaya, jujube, mulberry, and more. Jasmine, edible flowers, and herbs abound, all incorporated into a cold hardy (minus papaya), low maintenance, flowing design no different than with ornamental plants. Why not have the best of both worlds by blending edibles into your landscape for a beautiful and productive space.
